The Club

The school of medicine at King's is one of the world-leading institutions in teaching within the medical sphere. The teaching is strengthened by the clinical experience offered by world-famous Guy's, King's & St Thomas' hospitals. It is, therefore, an honour and a privilege to represent these prestigious hospitals as a cricket club.

Guy's, King's & St Thomas' Hospital Cricket Club (GKT CC) was first founded in 1891 which is when the first records of a competitive cricket team consisting of physicians, surgeons and medical students were established. Currently, the team consists of current GKT medical, dental and health science students.

GKT CC endeavours to maintain a high standard of cricket with training beginning in October at the Kia Oval which runs throughout university term time from once to twice a week. Again, the ability to train at a world-renowned stadium with high-class facilities is a privilege and enables us as a team to prepare thoroughly for the up and coming season.

The season begins in April where we partake in 3 leagues - BUCS, LUSL and UH. BUCS is the British Colleges and Universities Sports cricket league consisting of university teams in the South East of England. LUSL is the London Universities Sports Leagues which is exclusive to those universities in London. Finally, there is UH which stands for United Hospitals. This is a competitive league between GKT, Imperial, UCL, St. George's and Queen Mary's hospital cricket clubs. In both 2018 and 2019, GKT CC won the LUSL title and their respective BUCS Divisions, resulting in back to back promotions. GKT CC has a 1st and 2nd XI that partake in a mixture of the leagues described above which involve both 50 over and T20 games.

Recently, GKT CC played in the Surrey indoor league against universities and clubs. After a successful indoor season, there are plans to enter BUCS indoor leagues and enter two 6-a-side indoor teams. Our club also strives to fundraise and support charities, an example of this is the organisation of an inter-university cricket tournament (W GKT Grace cup) between other sports teams and societies which was successfully achieved in 2018 to raise money for the CALM charity.

As well as having a determination to win and strive for success, GKT CC also offers unforgettable socials but also national and international tours that have seen GKT travel to Barcelona, Cyprus and Berlin. The club's reputation is built upon many years of tradition, which include the famous Wednesday Guy's Bar nights, Café Nawaz curries and various other socials throughout the year. GKT CC welcomes players of a wide range of cricketing ability and promises to contribute to making those university years the best of your life.
