The GKT CC Academy Programme runs a playing tour in late March/early April, as a pre-season regime to ensure all members are primed to hit the ground running before the season starts. Reserved for those on the programme, the 1st XI captain will invite members on tour who he believes have shown the greatest commitment over the past winter, along with the group he believes will bring the 1st XI the most success in the upcoming summer.
Unfortunately the British Summer only gets into full flow come April, and outdoor cricket facilities usually refuse to open prior to this date. Therefore, this playing tour has been designed for the Academy to be fully prepared for the season, by training on grass pitches and wickets in summer conditions to ensure there are no cobwebs come the first game of the season. Furthermore, over 6 hours a day of constant cricket in breathtaking facilities is sure to improve every single player within the Academy, in an experience unprecedented in the club’s illustrious and traditional history.
Though hampered by COVID-19 in 2020, the playing tour destination has been re-organised and confirmed for 2021 at the outstanding Desert Springs Resort Facility, in Andalucia Spain. Cricket is organised each day from 9-5pm with access to 2 First-Class Cricket grounds, over 20 outdoor grass nets, a T20 fixture and a 50 over fixture, with the squad travelling to a cricketing centre of excellence often visited by the likes of the ECB, Sussex, Hampshire, Lancashire and more. Further facilities include a state of the art gym, 18 hole golf course, villa accommodation ensuring squad privacy, along with award winning restaurants and bars, as well as access to a buzzing social life in the town of Almeria to make the tour a truly unique team bonding and unforgettable experience.
