Guy's, King's & St. Thomas' Hospital Cricket Club has an annual tradition of embarking on national or international team tours. The 2018/19 season saw us travel to Naples, Italy, while previous destinations have included Berlin, Barcelona and Cyprus.
GKT CC tours last a weekend and allow the new players and freshers to integrate with existing players to build friendships and comradeship that will hold the team in good stead before the start of the season. The camaraderie translates onto the cricket field and ensures the team gels well, but also makes fixtures more enjoyable for everyone involved. Head over to the 'Gallery' to see pictures of previous tours!
At GKT CC we believe raising money for charity is very important and as a club, we strive to do our bit and instil this within our players. Some of our players have been inspired and gone on to do raise money themselves, such as by sponsored runs.
An example of one of our charity events that we are proud of, is the inter-university T10 cricket tournament that saw 4 GKT medical school teams participate. £150 was raised for the 'Campaign against living miserably' charity who are leading a movement against male suicide which is the single biggest killer in men under the age of 45. For images of the event head over to the 'Gallery' page.
This year we are running a charity 5-a-side tournament in aid of the cancer charity Bloodwise. Lighthearted but very competitive games take place Monday evening for the next few weeks in Greenwich, message Neil to get involved.
As well as training hard and performing to the best our ability on the cricket field, as a club we also like to have great team socials. These involve the weekly Guy's Bar social that takes place every Wednesday night on campus.
One of the big social traditions at GKT CC and many other GKT medical school sports team is celebratory team meals at the university's local curry house - Cafe Nawaz. These are followed by a team night out, so whether celebrating a league win or the election of a new committee, the memories made from these socials are always some of the best of your university years.
Other socials include go-karting, bowling, golf and heading over to the oval to watch Surrey CC or international teams that may be playing. GKT CC, therefore, does not only offer to be part of a very competitive cricket team but also a magnificent social scene too.
